Role
Description
Hypertension and diabetes are rising sharply across Sub-Saharan Africa, but rural health systems are stretched thin — some facilities serve over 60,000 residents, and patients can face multi-hour journeys for routine care. Led by the Technical University of Munich with a 12-partner consortium spanning Europe, the US, Rwanda, and Uganda, BEACON-HD tests two complementary care models: telemedicine-supported self-monitoring and community-based medication delivery. At the centre is CarePulse, a telemedicine platform built for low-resource settings — working over SMS and USSD on basic feature phones rather than smartphones. A cluster-randomised trial across 160 villages will generate the evidence needed to scale these models into national health policy.
Our Role
bSpoke leads Work Package 3, designing and building CarePulse end to end — architecture, real-time monitoring algorithms, and the interfaces patients and clinicians actually use.
